Luke Flynn

Luke Flynn (* 1988 in Dubuque / Iowa ) is an American composer.

Flynn began playing the trumpet as a child and was the first trumpeter of the youth jazz band Caboose when he was ten . He later founded the rock band VeraSun , with whom he toured the United States. He then studied composition with Amy Dunker at Clarke University and with Tadashi Kubo at Kagoshima University . His mentors included conductors and composers Michael Schelle , Timothy Salzman , Robert Grechesky and Stanley DeRusha .

In addition to chamber and choral music and orchestral works, which have been performed in the USA, Japan and Korea, Flynn composed several music for the theater. His music for Sarah Ruhl's Eurydice was recognized as best original composition at the 2011 American College Theater Festival . His funeral music Beneath the Wave for the victims of the 2011 tsunami won first prize at the San Jose Choral Project Composition Competition . In the same year, Flynn was a finalist in the International Sacred Composers Composition Competition with Sancta Caecilia (based on his own Latin text) .
