Apartment 23 (Original title: Don't Trust the B ---- in Apartment 23 ) is an American sitcom with Krysten Ritter , Dreama Walker and James Van Der Beek in the leading roles. It was produced from 2012 by 20th Century Fox Television , a sister company of 20th Century Fox , for the US broadcaster ABC . The series is about the small town girl June and the party girl Chloe who share an apartment. It was first broadcast in the US on April 11, 2012 on ABC's comedy block based on Modern Family . In Germany, the series was first broadcast on February 28, 2013 on ProSieben .

action

Upbeat small-town girl June Colburn moves to New York City for her dream job . But her boss turns out to be a fraudulent financial broker and June ends up on the street through no fault of her own. Without an apartment, she starts looking for a new job. She quickly finds a job in a coffee bar. While looking for a roommate, she meets the spirited party girl Chloe. An unusual friendship develops between the two, although Chloe initially only wants to take advantage of June. Chloe introduces June to the New York party scene, and June meets Chloe's best friend: former Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek. But the friendship is put to the test when James befriends June and Chloe becomes jealous.

production

The series was originally developed under the title Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23 for Fox in 2009, but the broadcaster dropped the project. In January 2011, ABC gave the go-ahead to produce a pilot episode . In February and March of the same year, Krysten Ritter, Dreama Walker and James Van Der Beek were cast for the leading roles. On May 13, 2011, the broadcaster ordered the series under the new title Apt. 23 during the so-called midseason. In October 2011 the series title was changed back to the original name, only the word "Bitch" was changed to "B ----".

For her role as Chloe , Krysten Ritter received $ 75,000 per episode in the first season. Although the ratings had dropped somewhat during the course of the broadcast, ABC announced the production of a second season in May 2012. After the audience ratings fell further during the first episodes of the second season, the series was withdrawn from the broadcast schedule in January 2013 with immediate effect. The series is therefore considered to be discontinued.

Cast and dubbing

The synchronization of the series was created at Arena Synchron based on dialogue books by Marius Clarén and directed by Clarén and Timmo Niesner .

Charisma

United States

The pilot ran on April 11, 2012 on ABC and reached 6.91 million viewers. During the first season, the series lost more and more viewers, so that the season finale on May 23, 2012 only had 5.60 million viewers. During the broadcast of the first eleven episodes of the second season, which ran from October 23, 2012 to January 15, 2013, the ratings dropped even further on Tuesday in a double pack with happy endings . Finally, ABC withdrew the series from their schedule in January 2013.

The remaining eight episodes of the second season were not shown on television in the USA, but were published from May 2013 on the broadcaster website ABC.com, in the iTunes Store and on the video-on-demand service Hulu .

Germany

ProSiebenSat.1 Media secured the broadcasting rights for Germany in March 2012. The pilot episode was broadcast on February 28, 2013 as a preview after the start of the eighth season of Germany's Next Topmodel on ProSieben . The regular broadcast of the first season then took place from March 5 to April 9, 2013 on Tuesdays. An average of 1.18 million viewers (11.1 percent) of the advertising-relevant target group and 1.37 million viewers (5.1 percent) of the total audience followed the seven episodes of the first season.

The first eight episodes of the second season were shown immediately afterwards from April 16 to May 28, 2013. The broadcast of four further episodes, including an episode that was not broadcast in the USA, followed from September 3 to 24, 2013. After that, ProSieben ended the broadcast due to the poor ratings. From November 21, 2013, ProSieben broadcast the entire series again in the night program, with the remaining seven episodes of the second season being shown from February 7, 2014.

Austria

In Austria, the station Puls 4 broadcast the complete series from September 1 to November 17, 2013, on Sundays in double episodes.

reception

criticism

“The concept works and what follows is 22 minutes of a solid single-camera comedy pilot. In addition, it is peppered with the now common stylistic devices such as cutaways and a flashback , which take on part of the exposition and the explanation of the premises . The whole thing is spiced up by a handful of supporting characters, such as the stalker neighbors and ex-work colleagues, who are already more lovable, twisted and interesting than some of the multi-camera comedies like 2 Broke Girls , Whitney or Are you there, Chelsea? have bid in this TV season. In addition, there is a wonderfully exaggerated version of Dawson's Creek leading actor James Van Der Beek as himself, competent leading actresses and you have a promising comedy restart. "
