Luke Sassano (born October 14, 1985 in Orinda , California ) is an American football player in the position of midfielder and defender . He currently plays for Sporting Kansas City in the top division of North American football, Major League Soccer (MLS).
Career
Youth and amateur football
Sassano began his active career as a football player at Lamorinda United and then played for the Santa Clara Sporting Ruckus in the Super Y-League , the top division in youth football in Canada and the United States.
From 2004 he came to the California Golden Bears at UC Berkeley for use, where he came to his departure in 2006 in a total of 50 games on a record of three goals and 14 assists. The first two years at the university he was a midfielder, only in his senior year he moved to the back rows and became a defender.
During his student days, he came to a few appearances for two amateur clubs from the USL Premier Development League , the fourth-highest division in North American football. So in 2006 he played twelve games for the San Francisco Seals and scored two goals and came to 13 missions in the same year for the San José Frogs .
Club career
At the MLS SuperDraft 2008 Sassano was drafted in the 3rd round as the 32nd pick for the New York Red Bulls in the Major League Soccer. On April 5, 2008, he made his professional debut against Columbus Crew . With the Red Bulls he reached the championship final at the end of the 2008 season, where the team lost 3-1 to Columbus Crew.
In his second season for the Red Bulls, he made 17 appearances, most of them in positions in defensive midfield. At the end of the 2009 season he trained with FC Red Bull Salzburg for three weeks .
After the 2010 season, his contract was not renewed and Sassano took part in the MLS Re-Entry Draft in December 2010. On December 15, 2010, he was selected by Los Angeles Galaxy and immediately transferred to Sporting Kansas City . There he signed on January 12, 2011.

Private
Sassano has two brothers (Evan and Eric) and a sister (Danielle). His brother Evan is an avid soccer player at UC Berkeley himself, and his sister Danielle also played college soccer at UC Santa Cruz .
