Lulu Weiss (* 1959 in Illingen an der Saar) is a guitarist and is considered a representative of traditional gypsy jazz .

Life

Like many German Sinti of his generation, Lulu Weiss grew up in a caravan and had a rather unconventional artistic education. He said the following in an interview:

“You know, I come from a Sinti family with a long musical tradition. Oskar Weiss taught me and my brother Caruso to play the guitar in his music school on Kleiner Platz in Landau . He took us to his performances - back when people played for dinner and hats. His manner has shaped us and many other musicians in my family and made us enjoy playing. "

Together with the violinists Rudi Haag and Bodo Jaworek he recorded several albums. Today Lulu Weiss lives in Landau in the Palatinate and together with his ensemble , which includes Sergio Parra (saxophone), Nello Weiss (guitar) and Otmar Klein (bass) (1952–2018), is an internationally sought-after soloist .
