Bo is a large, yellow-orange monster. He is very strong, but also cozy and calm. Lumi is a small human child and tries to imitate Bo. It always wears a green Bo costume. Together they discover the world around them and experience different adventures. The two characters complement and help each other.
The series aims to convey values such as friendship, teamwork, solidarity and social skills to its viewers.

The length of the individual episodes of Lumi & Bo varies between 30 seconds and around 3.5 minutes. In the longer stories, Bürger Lars Dietrich acts as an off-speaker . In addition to the stories, there are also various Lumi & Bo songs . These are also sung by Dietrich, in the respective videos real children dance in the animated series world.
