Luna Rossa ( Italian for "Red Moon") is an Italian yacht syndicate.

In addition to the +39 Challenge and Mascalzone Latino - Capitalia Team , Luna Rossa Challenge is one of three Italian teams in the America's Cup sailing competition . The team and syndicate boss is the fashion guru Patrizio Bertelli , who founded Luna Rossa Challenge in 1997. The team tried to win the cup four times, but always failed.

30th America's Cup 2000

The first challenge for the Luna Rossa team was the America's Cup in Auckland , New Zealand in 2000. The team won the Louis Vuitton Cup with a record of 38 wins in 49 races and thus secured participation in the decisive final (Final Series) for the America's Cup. Here Luna Rossa lost to the winner New Zealand "Black Magic" in a 9-race final.

32nd America's Cup 2007

With an initial budget of 110 million, the team came third after BMW Oracle Racing and Alinghi .

Before Valencia, Luna Rossa initially claimed a favorite role under skipper Francesco de Angelis and reached the semi-finals of the Louis Vuitton Cup . There it defeated BMW Oracle Racing 5: 1 and thus shattered the American dream of the Cup. In the final, Emirates Team New Zealand won 5-0 over Luna Rossa and prevented their entry into the America's Cup.

34th America's Cup 2013

In August 2013, Luna Rossa took part in the Louis Vuitton Cup. This time as a challenger, which the other syndicates joined. They failed on August 25, 2013 in the 8th final race in the Best of 13th series against Emirates Team New Zealand.

The team's main sponsor, Patrizio Bertelli, announced that they would be participating in the next regatta. The team's base is in Cagliari.
