Patrizio Bertelli (born April 6, 1946 in Arezzo , Italy ) is an Italian entrepreneur , husband of Miuccia Prada and CEO of the Prada fashion company .

Life

Patrizio Bertelli comes from a family of Tuscan lawyers . When he was six years old, his father died at the age of 39. He was raised by his mother, a teacher . Early on, he showed a certain talent for drawing and painting . 1967 Bertelli founded at the age of 21 years in his hometown of Arezzo, a leather goods - factory named Sir Robert . At the end of the 1960s, he gave up his engineering studies at the University of Bologna without a degree in order to produce highly fashionable leather belts for men. In 1997, passionate sailor Bertelli founded the yacht syndicate Luna Rossa Challenge to win the America's Cup . In the years 2000 to 2013, the Luna Rossa team competed four times at the America's Cup without winning the cup. In 2000 Luna Rossa made it to the Final Series after winning the Louis Vuitton Cup .

Prada

From 1979, Bertelli expanded the small, somewhat outdated, leather bag and suitcase manufacturer Prada, which his wife had inherited, into an international fashion group. Bertelli is seen as the maker behind the Prada brand, while his wife is responsible for the design and aesthetics . The combination of the two characters defines the Prada brand. Bertelli persuaded Miuccia Prada 1986 settlement of a Prada boutique in New York City , urged in 1988 to the launching of Prada women's fashion and finally in 1993 by Prada Men's Clothing. Towards the end of the 1990s, Bertelli pursued a massive acquisition strategy with Prada and, amassing immense debts, bought entire companies or shares in companies such as Fendi , Gucci , Helmut Lang, Jil Sander and others, in order to add them to the Prada Group for the purpose of international competitiveness integrate.
