Lunawada , or Lunavada , is a city in the Indian state of Gujarat .
The city is the capital of the Mahisagar district . Lunawada has the status of a municipality . The city is divided into 9 wards (constituencies).
history
During the British era, the state of Lunawada was the capital of the princely state of Lunawada (part of the Rewa Kantha Agency in the Presidency of Bombay ). The state of Lunawada was founded in 1434 and was incorporated into the Republic of India in 1948.
Demographics
The city's population is 36,954 according to the 2011 census. Lunawada has a gender ratio of 975 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus that is usual for India. The literacy rate was 88.4% in 2011. Almost 58% of the population are Hindus , approx. 40% are Muslim and approx. 2% belong to another or no religion. Children under 6 years of age are 12.1% of the population.
