The Lurkers is the name of an English music group that is one of the veterans of punk and was founded in 1976 in Uxbridge , Greater London. Influenced by Slade , Sweet , the Ramones and the New York Dolls , among others , they play melodic punk rock with fun, but also socially critical lyrics, or stories from their everyday lives.

history

The Lurkers were founded by Pete Stride, Manic Esso, Howard Wall and Nigel Moore, who was replaced by Arturo Bassick six months later. From 1977 to 1979 the band reached the top 40, the English charts, with five titles, got several television appearances and was a regular guest on the John Peel Show . Because of different musical ideas within the band and a change in the management of their record company Beggars Banquet Records , whose new boss showed little interest in the band, the Lurkers disbanded in 1980.

In 1982 the band re-formed with singer Mark Fincham, who left the band in 1984. Then it came to another dissolution. In 1985 the former bassist Arturo Bassick, who meanwhile played country punk with the Blueberry Hellbellies , got to know Die Toten Hosen at a concert in Düsseldorf , who encouraged him to re-establish the Lurkers and financed the comeback in 1987 with the album Wild Times Again . The recordings were made together with Pat Collier from Vibrators and Campino in London for the label "Totenkopf". In March 1987 both bands played a concert together, also organized by the Toten Hosen in the sold-out "House of Youth" in Düsseldorf. The Lurkers are also represented on the album Learning English Lesson One , which the Toten Hosen dedicated to their punk role models in 1991. Then there were again numerous concerts together with the Toten Hosen in Germany.

The band now gives more than two hundred concerts a year. She toured Europe, South America and Japan and has a large, mostly young, fan base, especially in Argentina.
