Lusenga Plain National Park

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lusenga Plain National Park borders the Kalungwishi River in the Luapula Province in northern Zambia .

geography

The Lusenga Plain is a hot place with high humidity. The area was declared a national park in order to preserve this wide plain with its reed-covered swamps and evergreen forest on the hills. The rest of the park is dominated by dense Miombo forest . The river Kalungwishi on its northeast side has numerous waterfalls, the Lumangwe Falls , Chimpepe Falls , Kabweluma Falls , Kundabwiku Falls . There are also the Mumbuluma Falls of the Mumbuluma tributary.

The Lusenga plain borders on the Mwerusee , the banks of which are densely populated. The population pressure is high.

Status

The Lusenga plain is a national park, but it is hardly protected. The animal population has already been greatly reduced through poaching. But buffalo and some antelope species are said to still live in the park. Apparently, elephants and zebras were also decimated to such an extent that animals from other Zambian parks had to be brought to Lusenga Plain and reintroduced .
