The Luther Church or Old Lutheran Church in Senftenberg is the church building of the former Old Lutheran Church or its successor to the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church (SELK). The listed church is not far from the village green of the village of Jüttendorf, which has been incorporated into Senftenberg since 1923, between Briesker Straße, Wehrstraße and Niemtscher Weg. The church belongs to the church district Lausitz of the SELK.

At the end of the 19th century , the proportion of old denominational Lutherans rose in Senftenberg due to the influx of workers who were active in lignite mining . On April 10, 1894, Chief Post Conductor Franz Conrad submitted an application to Superintendent Fengler to set up a sermon site. After confirmation, a house at 7 Weststrasse was consecrated on October 14, 1894. As the number of parishioners continued to grow, a separate church had to be built. The community and mayor Karl Ziehm were in favor of the chapel in the old cemetery. The uniate pastor Hintsatz was against this plan. So the community bought a burned-down barn plot for 2000 Reichsmarks not far from the old cemetery. The construction was financially supported by Ilse Bergbau AG .

The building was designed by the Berlin builder Gustav Götze. The Senftenberg master mason John took over the construction. The laying of the foundation stone for the brick building made of red bricks took place on April 2, 1900, the consecration of the church on December 2, 1900.

During the November pogroms in 1938 , the destruction of the church, which was suspected to be a synagogue, was averted. At the end of the Second World War, ammunition was stored in the church. During the GDR era, prefabricated buildings were built around the church .

The furnishings - altar, altarpiece, gallery, pulpit, stalls, baptismal font and lead-glazed windows - are still in their original condition. The organ from 1826 was transferred from the Sorno church in 1901 . It was created by Johann Christoph Schröther the Younger .
