from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Luton Castle were two castles in the city of Luton in the English county of Bedfordshire .

12th century castle

A wooden moth was erected in Luton in 1139 and demolished again in 1154 after an armistice.

13th century castle

Another castle was built elsewhere in the city in 1221, but demolished in 1224 or 1225. Earthworks and an associated outer bailey were initially preserved, but were later removed.

Excavations were carried out in 2002 and a steep-walled trench was discovered.

Today the Matalan , a fashion discount, is located here. There are no remains of the castle.
