The retired chief detective Robert Lutz learns that his niece Nora Sommer is starting at the police station where he has been solving his cases for many years. He seizes this opportunity to escape from his boring retirement and subsequently supports the niece in her criminal activities. He receives valuable help from his crook friend Hardy von Bellen from the Hamburg red light district. Lutz and Hardy do not always use conventional methods and slip into various roles when it is useful to solve the case. Sometimes they also take care of things that are none of their business and thus get Nora into trouble.
