Lyapunov is an impact crater on the northeastern edge of the front of the moon , so it is only visible in a strongly distorted manner, if at all. It is northeast of Hubble Crater and south of Rayleigh .
The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1964 after the Russian mathematician Alexander Mikhailovich Lyapunov .
