The Lybid ( Ukrainian Либідь , Russian Лыбедь / Lybed ) is a 17 km long flowing water in the urban area of the Ukrainian capital Kiev .
The right tributary of the Dnepr has a catchment area of 66.2 km², is about 0.5 meters deep and between 1.6 and 3.5 meters wide. The flow velocity reaches 0.8–1.0 m / s and the average water runoff is 1 m³ / s. The water mineralization is 583 mg / l.
The historic river was once an important waterway and is still important today for draining large parts of the city.
Surname
It is believed that the river is named after the sister of the city founders Kyj, Shchek and Choriv , Lybiddie ( Либідь ).
course
The Lybid mostly runs underground in pipes or canalized above ground through the Kiev urban area. Its source is at the Kiev-Volhynia railway station in Svyatoshyn district and the mouth is in the Kortschuwate district ( Корчува́те ) in the Kiev district of Holossiyiv .
