The Lygos ( Greek Λύγκος , n. Sg., Also: Ligkos, Lygos, Ligos, Lyngos, Lingos ) is a mountain of the northern Pindus with a height of 2,177 m (the summit is called Avgo , Αυγό).
It is located in the western Macedonian regional district Grevena on the border with the regional district Ioannina . It also forms the natural border between Macedonia and Epirus . In addition to the Avgo peak, there are other peaks such as the Pyrostia ( η Πυροστιά , 1967 m). The closest settlement is Vovousa ( Βοβούσα ) on the Aoos . The Lygos is part of the alpine part of the Pindos National Park , which extends from there to the west. This also includes the mountains of Zygos ( Ζυγό ή Μαυροβούνι ). The northern slopes are made up of a special black pine forest . On the mountain are also the sources of Aspropotamos ( Ασπροπόταμος ), a tributary of the Venetikos ( Βενέτικος ), which in turn the Aliakmona flows. The Aspropotamos gorge separates the mountain from the northern mountain Vasilitsa ( Βασιλίτσα ). Not far from the summit is the mountain lake Lakkos Avgou ( Λάκκος Αυγού ⊙ ).
