Lyle Griffin

Lyle Griffin was an American jazz musician ( trombone , vocals ) and record producer .

Griffin appeared in the Los Angeles jazz scene in the mid-1940s when he made recordings with his own orchestra in Hollywood; His musicians included Al Killian , Hal McKusick , Lucky Thompson , Dodo Marmarosa , Herbie Haymer , Cee Pee Johnson and singer David Allyn . The recordings appeared on Griffin's label Atomic , which existed from 1945 to 1955, and were partially re-released on the album The Tenor Sax of Lucky Thompson: The Beginning Years (1991).

In addition to recordings of his own formations, Griffin also published music by Barney Kessel , Slim Gaillard , Ray Linn , Dodo Marmarosa ( Flight of the Vout Bag ) and David Allyn on Atomic , for whom he also composed. In 1956 he accompanied the comedian Lord Buckley with his orchestra on his album A Most Immaculate Aristocrat ; a number of Lord Buckley's singles also appeared on Griffin's Hip label . These included Flight of the Saucer and Teegange Cat (with Vido Musso ). For the Mastro label he also accompanied the singer Miss Dana with his orchestra.
