features

As is typical for the Oscillatoriales , Lyngbya grows in long, unbranched cell threads, also called filaments. These are surrounded by an, often colorless, gelatinous shell. The filaments can form mats. The single cells are longer than they are wide. Hormogonies are formed for reproduction.
