Jacob Georg Agardh (born December 8, 1813 in Lund ; † January 17, 1901 there ), also Jakob Georg Agardh , was a Swedish botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " J. Agardh ".

Life

Jacob Georg Agardh was born in 1813 as the son of the Swedish botanist Carl Adolph Agardh (1785-1859). He worked at Lund University and from 1854 to 1879 professor of botany. 1862–1863 he was the rector of the university. He laid out the Lund Botanical Garden and was also its director. Agardh published writings on many botanical fields; a focus was on seaweed. In 1862/63 and 1865/66 Agardh was a representative of Lund University on the Swedish State Council, from 1867 to 1872 he was a member of the second chamber of the Swedish Parliament . He was chairman of the city council (stadsfullmäktige) of Lund from 1863 to 1868.
