La Cruz is the capital of the eponymous department of San Martín in the province of Corrientes in northeast Argentina . In the classification of communes in the province of Corrientes, La Cruz is in the 2nd category.
history
La Cruz was founded in 1630 by the Jesuit Cristóbal Altamirano .
On June 15, 1947, a serious railway accident occurred near La Cruz : the international train of the British- owned Argentine North Eastern Railway from Buenos Aires , Argentina, to Asunción , Paraguay , collided with a cow , derailed and overturned. 20 people died.
