Lysergene is an electronic side project by esoteric guitarist Gordon Bicknell.

history

Lysergene was founded by Gordon Bicknell as an electronic solo project. Bicknell, programmed , produced and designed music since the mid-1990s, years before Lysergene's first recordings. Around the same time he was able to gain first notoriety with the funeral doom band Esoteric. After two releases on Aesthetic Death Records , Bicknell, inspired by the British dubstep scene, changed the musical direction of the project and changed the contract partner. After two split releases via Area Recordings , he switched to Phantom Hertz Recordings . Despite his interest in appearing live with Lysergene, Bicknell refuses classical DJ appearances because he prefers a live performance and does not want to “just press the play button”.

style

The publications released via Aesthetic Death Records are assigned to post-industrial and electro . Reviews try to compare Skinny Puppy , Nine Inch Nails , Scorn and Terrorkraft . The music is arranged in layers and combines noisy loops , drones and samples with danceable beats , which are close to the electronic body music of the 1980s. The music is rhythmic and provided with distortions . The later releases are mainly attributed to dubstep. The music is characterized by typical elements such as subbass and half step .
