The MÁV series M28 of the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) is a two-axle shunting diesel locomotive developed in 1955 , of which 21 were produced for the MÁV and around 75 for private operators.

history

This series was created for the light shunting service in order to replace the steam locomotive operation in the railroad depot and to carry out smaller towing services in delivery traffic.

They had the factory designations Rába M 030, M 033 or M 051. All variants were grouped under the MÁV series M 28 or A 21 for private operators. They differed in terms of the engine equipment, the equipment with mechanical or hydraulic drive and minor external dimensional deviations. The specified technical data correspond to the Rába series M 030.

Most of them are still in operation today. They were nicknamed "Raisin" by the drivers .

technical description

All variants have an end operator's cab, in front of which the machine system is housed under a front end.

In the M 030 series, the drive motor consisted of a six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine in a row arrangement with a lower camshaft and rocker arm-operated hanging valves. This drove the change gear of the locomotive connected to the reversing gear through a cardan shaft . In this case, the spur gears were constantly in mesh, the power transmission was established pneumatically by friction clutches. This was followed by the drive unit, consisting of a jackshaft, connecting rods and drive wheels.

The locomotives of the M 051 series had a diesel-hydraulic power transmission. The maximum speed of these locomotives was 50 km / h.
