The MÁV series M47 is a shunting locomotive of the Hungarian State Railways . The series manufactured in Romania has a diesel-hydraulic drive and two independent, powered bogies .

The MÁV has three variants of the locomotive type: The M47.1 has a diesel engine with an output of 514 kW, the M47.2 sub-series refers to the locomotives in which a unit with an output of 700 kW has been installed. While production of the M47.1 began in 1974 and lasted for a year, the second series was produced from 1975 to 1979. M47.1 and M47.2 have different locomotive bodies. A locomotive that is otherwise identical to the M47.2 with a weaker engine is carried as the MÁV series M43 .

Despite initial problems with the machine set, M47s can still be found today at numerous freight yards in Hungary. In addition, locomotives of the same construction are running in Bulgaria , Greece and Romania .
