Máncora is a Peruvian fishing village and tourist center with around 13,000 inhabitants on the Pacific . It is located in the north of the country in the Piura region and only about one and a half hours (by car) southwest of the Ecuadorian border.

Larger cities nearby are Tumbes , about 85 km northeast, Talara , about 60 km southwest, and Piura , about 200 km south of Máncora. The route from Lima generally leads via Piura: 14 hours overnight by bus to Piura and from there 3 to 4 hours by bus or smaller 6–8 person vans.

The many kilometers long beaches are famous for their fine, light yellow sand. In connection with the clear, 24 to 28 ° C warm water as well as the dry, tropical climate with temperatures between around 17 and 36 ° C and daily sunshine, this makes it very attractive for tourists.

The inhabitants of Máncora live mainly from tourism, with mainly local vacationers looking for relaxation here. In winter, however, foreign tourists predominate. Máncora has a good infrastructure with many restaurants, shops, doctors, internet cafés, banks and hospitals.

Sports

The ideal surfing area on this part of the Pacific coast is also particularly appreciated in the summer months from November to February. Here are some of the best left-turning waves in the country. In addition to a point directly on the beach in the center of the village, there are also other well-known surfing spots in the vicinity of Máncora, such as Los Órganos and Cabo Blanco. In addition, Máncora is ideal for kitesurfing , as the winds are good in the afternoons.
