Mário Jorge Faria da Costa (born November 15, 1985 in Póvoa de Varzim ) is a former Portuguese cyclist .
Career
Mário Costa was Portuguese road racing champion in the junior class in 2003. In the 2006 season he was national runner-up in the individual time trial of the U23 class in Castelo de Vide .
In 2010, after the Tour of Portugal time trial , Costa and his brother Rui tested positive for methylhexanamine during a doping control and were then suspended by the Portuguese Cycling Federation for one year. After the World Anti-Doping Agency reclassified the drug, the ban was reduced to five months. In 2011 he became Portuguese runner-up in road racing.
In 2016, Mário Costa had his only start in a Grand Tour , the Vuelta a España , which he did not finish.
At the beginning of January 2017, Mário da Costa announced his retirement from competitive cycling.
