Mátyás Laáb

Mátyás Laáb , also: Matijaš Laáb (* 1746 in Bezenye ; † August 7, 1823 in Neudorf near Parndorf ) was a Burgenland-Croatian Catholic priest, writer and translator.

Life

Laáb was born in Pallersdorf (Croatian: Bizonja ). In 1790 he was a chaplain in Sigleß . Later he was pastor of Kleinandrä ( Hidegség , Vedešin ). From 1797 until his death he was pastor in Neudorf (Novo Selo).

Between 1814 and 1820 he wrote two catechisms. His main work is the first translation of the New Testament into Burgenland-Croatian . Mátyás Laáb's goal was to reform the Burgenland-Croatian language, so he started translating the Bible. In 1812 he presented his translation to the bishop in Zagreb , but it was not printed.
