Incorporations
In 1971, as part of the amalgamation of the municipalities, the previously independent municipality of Krensdorf was merged with the municipality of Sigleß. What seemed to work quite well at the beginning, threw up increasing problems over time, so that the two parishes were separated again in 1998.
history
As shown by numerous sites in the area, the municipality of Sigleß was already settled in the Neolithic Age.
Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg . Later in the Roman Empire , the area was part of the province of Pannonia .
In Roman times, a road that connected the Roman settlements "Scar (a) bantia" ( Ödenburg ) and "Aquae" ( Baden ) passed near Sigleß. During excavations in 2008, Roman urn graves from the 1st century AD were discovered. In 2009, in addition to a Roman cremation cemetery, late Avar-early Carolingian finds were made.
From the time of the Avars in the 8th and 9th centuries. AD. Are in Kloaschitzwald outside of the village, numerous burial mounds. Excavations have been taking place there since August 2007. The graves of a necropolis from the end of the 8th and beginning of the 9th century AD, but also the foundations of a Roman grave structure were found.

The place name Sigless is first mentioned in 1325 in the spelling "Sykels". According to a document available today in the Hungarian State Archives in Budapest, the son of Count Simon von Mattersdorf-Forchtenstein , Magister Paul, presented his Austrian bride Elisabeth von Pottendorf with the Sigleß settlement as a “wedding present”. In 1346 Sigleß was incorporated into the county of Forchtenstein , which changed hands to Prince Nikolaus Esterházy in the first half of the 17th century .
As in many other places in Burgenland, Croatian colonists were settled in Sigless in the 16th century, with the proportion of Germans and Croats - similar to the places Antau (Otava), Kittsee (Gijeca) and Stegersbach (Santalek) - in the past always balanced. The proportion of Croats has been steadily decreasing since the interwar period, so that today only a few inhabitants can be counted as part of the Burgenland Croats (proportion of Croats in the total population - 1910: 36.7%, 1934: 29.9%, 1971: 13, 2%, 2001: 3.0%).
Like all of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name "Siklos" are used.
After the end of the First World War, after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (→ History of Burgenland ).
