Krensdorf is a municipality in the Mattersburg district in Burgenland in Austria . The Hungarian name of the municipality is Tormafalu , the Croatian place name is Kreništof .

geography

The small valley settlement of Krensdorf lies between the heights of the Rosalien and Leitha Mountains in the flat area on both sides of the Hirmerbach . Hiking and cycling trails lead through the wooded landscape. The municipality is crossed by the Edlesbach .

history

Krensdorf (center left) around 1873 (recording sheet of the state survey )

Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg .

Later under the Romans, today's Krensdorf was then in the province of Pannonia .

The place belonged, like the whole of Burgenland, to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name Tormafalu be used.

After the end of the First World War , after negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919.

The place Krensdorf has been part of the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ).

Due to the municipal structure improvement law, Krensdorf was merged with Sigleß to form the large municipality of Sigleß on January 1, 1971, contrary to the decision of the municipal council . As a result of the merger, the elementary school in Krensdorf was closed in 1971/72 and the school building was converted into a kindergarten. Since there was no common community life in the following years and there were constant differences over the use of financial resources, a referendum was carried out on November 10, 1996 regarding the separation of communities. Both places spoke out clearly in favor of the separation - Krensdorf 238: 48 and Sigleß 436: 48 votes - which is why an application was made to the state government for a separation ordinance to be drawn up. The state government granted the application, which is why the separation took place on January 1, 1998. As mayor, Josef Giefing (ÖVP) prevailed against Gertrude Ofenböck (SPÖ) in the direct election, although the SPÖ had the majority in the local council. For the time being, a house was rented as a municipal office. After differences over the establishment of a new municipal office, a referendum had to decide. Giefing resigned and in the direct mayor election of April 30, 2000, Ofenböck was elected as the new mayor. In 2002 the municipal office with six apartments and a doctor's office was finally built. The last act of separation from Sigleß was the dissolution of the administrative community and the registry office association.
