Rosalia-Kogelberg Nature Park
The Rosalia-Kogelberg area is protected as a nature park and is located on the eastern edge of the Vienna Basin in Burgenland . The nature park is freely accessible.
Natural sights
The Rosaliengebirge and the Ödenburger Gebirge form the extreme eastern edge of the Alps in the transition area to the Pannonian region. The Wulka , the only notable tributary to Lake Neusiedl , forms a gentle valley between these hilly landscapes . This climatically favored region enables sweet chestnuts and strawberries (known locally as pineapples) to flourish . In the so-called Mattersburger Hügelland, a bird sanctuary was set up for the scops owl , the largest settlement in Austria . In the forestless areas, rudimentary dry grass communities can be found on sometimes very sandy soils.
The municipalities
The nature park extends over 13 communities, that is Bad Sauerbrunn , Baumgarten , Draßburg , Forchtenstein , Loipersbach , Marz , Pöttelsdorf , Pöttsching , Rohrbach bei Mattersburg , Schattendorf , Sigleß , Sieggraben and Zemendorf-Stöttera .
Culture and sights
There are some architectural monuments in the nature park; the most important of these is Forchtenstein Castle . In Bad Sauerbrunn there is a rosarium and a few fountains in the spa park , where you can taste the healing water. Numerous marked hiking trails have been set up in the gentle terrain.
