The Märchenbrunnen is a fountain in Munich on Ernst-Toller-Platz in the Schwabing district in front of the Oskar-von-Miller-Gymnasium .
The fountain was designed by Barbara Hammann in 1999 . It was financed by means of an inheritance that the state capital Munich had received from a married couple for the purpose of building the fountain.
The fountain consists of seven pointed caps made of patinated bronze , from which water gushes at the top. The name of the fountain is related to letters from Ernst Toller , which he wrote from prison: “I am sending you a book of fairy tales because the fairy tale releases us from the curse of having to be nothing but human, because the fairy tale is sibling to every animal and every flower and every body of water.
