The Märchenvilla is a building originally built in 1833/34 in Eberswalde . The classicist villa has been extensively restored and now serves as the town's registry office.

history

Johann-Friedrich Dictus acquired building land in Brunnenstrasse in Eberswalde in 1826 and built a representative country house in 1833/34. This building was later called Villa Märchen and today it is mostly called Märchenvilla. Dictus was the son of a Berlin wool manufacturer. From 1836 a park was created around the building. The park was once called the Dictus Garden. Sculptures and sculptures were specially brought from Berlin to beautify the park. This fairy tale world consisting of characters earned the villa the name fairy tale villa.

In 1866, Count von Eglofstein acquired the villa and the park area. The aristocrat redesigned the house and also built several farm buildings. The owners of the building changed several times afterwards. Another significant structural change was made in 1878 when the building was extended. Now a two-story representative house with a late classicistic plastered facade was built. The neighboring buildings on Brunnenstrasse were also of a high standard, which made the street architecturally interesting as a whole.

From April 20, 1890, the building was used commercially by the hotelier AC Parth as a health resort and hotel, at that time Eberswalde was still a health resort. A well was specially built for the Kurhaus, which still exists today and drains into the nearby blackness . Engineer Piefke, head of the Berlin waterworks, was responsible for the execution . Parth was a member of the Eberswalder fountain management. The hotelier then had a serious financial bottleneck and the spa had to be closed.

The villa was used as a registry office by the city of Eberswalde from 1942. For a short time after 1945 it was used as a Soviet boarding school. Between 1951 and 1989 it served as the "House of Young Pioneers" in the GDR . After that, the structural condition of the building was less good. From 2002 extensive renovation work was carried out by the energy supplier EWE, who is the owner of the house, so that the building is of high quality today and has been used again as the registry office for the city of Eberswalde since 2004. In 2005 the house received a restored cork painting from 1849, it comes from Dictus. Two of the figures in the garden were restored by the Erfurt master metal foundry Karlheinz Hütter . In 2014 the fairytale villa was named the most beautiful registry office in Germany.
