Mäuerach (outdated also Mäurach or Meurach ) is a residential area near the city of Pforzheim in Baden-Württemberg . Administratively it belongs to Eutingen an der Enz , which was incorporated into Pforzheim as a district in 1975.

location

The place is east of the city of Pforzheim on a cleared plateau above the Enz (352 m above sea level) and is enclosed in a U-shape by the so-called Fleck- und Kanzlerwald (mixed forest). Mäuerach is close to the former state horticultural show in the Enzauen and has direct access to the hiking trails of the Black Forest .

history

Until the end of the Second World War , the district was mainly used for parceled allotment gardens. During the First World War these were sold by the village of Eutingen to citizens of Pforzheim, who laid out gardens there. Mäuerach is still called “Kerschemeirich” (cherry Mäuerach) because of its once famous cherry blossom. The first permanent residents were bombed out Pforzheimers , who used their garden houses as shelter and continued to add and expand over time. In 1949 Mäuerach was connected to the public water network, only in 1961 to the sewage network. From 1982 gas lines were laid. Construction activity increased from the mid-1960s. Above all, single-family, terraced and smaller apartment buildings were built. In the 1970s, the old wooden church was replaced by a modern Protestant community center with a kindergarten. The inauguration of the Friedenskirche took place on November 17, 1973, the bell was taken over from the provisional wooden church.

traffic

There are buses to the center of Pforzheim every 30 minutes . There is an on- call bus to the Eutingen district.

Others

In 1963 a memorial stone was set up for the major attack on Pforzheim on February 23, 1945, which has meanwhile been moved to the public green area.

During excavations in the neighboring Chancellor Forest (ten minutes' walk) the so-called “Roman ruins” of a former estate, a “ Villa Rustica ”, from the 2nd century were uncovered.
