Mõniste (German: Menzen ) is a former rural community in the Estonian district of Võru with an area of 176.34 km². It has 844 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). Mõniste has been part of the Rõuge rural community since 2017 .
Mõniste is located 45 km southwest of Võru and 45 km southeast of Valga . It was the southernmost municipality in Estonia. The village was first mentioned in 1386. In addition to the main town of Mõniste, the rural community included the 16 villages of Hürova, Hüti, Kallaste, Karisöödi , Koemetsa, Kuutsi, Parmupalu, Peebu, Sakurgi, Saru, Singa, Tiitsa, Tundu, Tursa, Vastse-Roosa and Villike.
57% of the community area was covered with forest. Forests, lakes and rivers invite nature lovers to go hiking and canoeing. Well worth seeing is the Kuutsi Museum, founded in 1948, about southern Estonian village life in the 19th century .
