Mönchmühle in Ravensburg

The August Schuler Mönchmühle OHG is a craft flour mill in Ravensburg . The mill buildings are on the edge of Ravensburg's old town on both sides of Leonhardstrasse ( Bundesstrasse 32 ).

history

The Mönchmühle, first mentioned in the sources in 1312, originally belonged to the Dominican monastery in Löwental and passed into the possession of the Ravensburg Carmelites around 1450 . After several changes of ownership from 1807, it was acquired by master miller Wilhelm Schuler in 1860. Since then, the mill has been owned by the Schuler family as a family business in the fifth generation.

technology

The mill is a typical water mill . It is the last still intact of formerly over 30 water engines on the Flappach , a small stream that flows through the suburb of Ölschwang and the old town of Ravensburg and flows into the Schussen in the west of the city .

The Francis turbine powered by the Flappach was built in 1923–1925 and overhauled from April to June 2002.

Technical specifications:

  • Manufacturer: Escher Wyss AG Ravensburg
  • Gradient: 5.70 m
  • Water volume: 300 l / s
  • Expansion capacity: 11.5 kW
  • Annual work: 75,000 kWh

Silo Aulendorf

In October 2007, the storage capacity for grain was increased several times through the purchase of the Aulendorf grain silo facility (former Reichsilo). Up to 10,000 tons of grain can be stored in the silos there.

Silos such as the system at the Aulendorf railway junction were built in almost identical designs throughout Germany between 1930 and 1940 before the Second World War, near large cities and at convenient locations (waterways, railway lines).

The Aulendorf facility was designed to receive grain from railway wagons. In order to be able to carry out loading and unloading as efficiently and quickly as possible, a siding with two shunting tracks, several switches and a capstan system existed until 1997.

Grain was delivered loose in special bulk goods wagons, but also in normal freight wagons in jute sacks. In the years after the Second World War, a truck acceptance was added so that grain could be delivered by road.
