- Selenographic coordinates 1 ° south, 6 ° west
- named after the Danish statesman Johannes von Mösting (1759–1843), who founded the magazine Astronomische Nachrichten ,
Mösting has a sharp, regular crater wall and is hardly eroded, which indicates a relatively young age. About 70 km to the south is the smaller Mösting A , which was chosen as a reference point for measuring selenographic coordinates in the 19th century because of its precisely round shape . Its coordinates are 3 ° 10'47 "south, 5 ° 09'50" west.
