The Lemkenhafen Mill Museum is located in the old sailing windmill "Jachen Flünk" in Lemkenhafen on the island of Fehmarn in the Ostholstein district in Schleswig-Holstein . The listed building has housed a mill and agriculture museum since 1961.

history

The "Jachen Flünk" mill is a Dutch windmill that the grain trader and ship owner Joachim Rahlff (1756–1830) had built in 1787. The grain grown on Fehmarn was ground into groats and barley in the mill and then exported profitably to the Nordic countries. The mill was given the name “Jachen Flünk”, named after a former owner, around 1848. At the turn of the century 1900, five to six journeymen and other assistants were employed in the mill. In the first half of the 20th century, the milling business was no longer doing so well and in 1954 operations were closed.

Demolition threatened and in 1958 "Jachen Flünk" was taken over by the state of Schleswig-Holstein. An extensive renovation followed, with the machinery being made functional again. After that, “Jachen Flünk” became part of the Association for the Fehmarnian Antiquities Collection. V. and placed under monument protection. Since June 16, 1961, the mill has been open to the public as a mill and agriculture museum. Today "Jachen Flünk" is the oldest completely preserved windmill in Schleswig-Holstein that works with wind sails.

In the years 1964 to 1965 five of the six floors (floors) of the mill and the adjoining granary were converted into a museum. Here visitors can view the mill's historic machinery, learn about its history and the millers who operated it. In addition, models of Fehmarn farms and a fully equipped forge are shown. Agricultural implements, historical documents and old photographs illustrate the life and work of the people on Fehmarn at that time.
