Münchner Wochenblatt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Münchner Wochenblatt was the first weekly newspaper in Munich to provide the entire population of Munich with local news.

history

In 1974 Jürgen F. Röpenack acquired "Munich South", which has been published since 1967. One of the columnists for the Münchner Wochenblatt was the Mayor of Munich, Christian Ude (SPD). From 1996 to 2006 he wrote a column in which he addressed the citizens of Munich. At the same time, Kurt Faltlhauser (CSU), Bavarian Finance Minister , wrote for the Münchner Wochenblatt.

At the end of the 1970s, the mascot "Wobl Bear" was invented for the newspaper's family pages. Today the green bear is used as a man-sized costume . In 1978 a toy market was held for the first time. It was a flea market where the exhibitors only sold children's toys and clothing .

In February 2006 the Münchner Wochenblatt (Wednesday title) was discontinued for economic reasons. The publisher continues to exist and publishes the Münchner Saturday newspaper Süd-Ost and the Ebersberger Saturday newspaper as independent weekly publications. In May 2006 the renaming of the “Münchner Wochenblatt Verlags- und Werbegesellschaft mbH” to “ MWB Medien GmbH” took place.

The partner Süddeutscher Verlag decided in 2010 to discontinue the company's last advertising papers: in November the Ebersberger Saturday newspaper, in December the Münchner Saturday newspaper Süd-Ost. The MWB Medien GmbH was merged with the Süddeutscher Verlag in the following year. Objects and orders such as the "Berufswahlheft" (career choice - my way into the future) and the marketing of the VHS objects were passed on to the previous subsidiary Parsberg Echo Verlag GmbH; this company became a direct subsidiary of the Süddeutscher Verlag. MWB's holdings were also transferred to the Parsberg Echo.
