Münir Ertegün (* 1883 in Istanbul ; † November 11, 1944 in Washington, DC ) was a Turkish diplomat .

Life

After graduating from Istanbul Law Faculty in 1908, he became a civil servant at the Ottoman Foreign Ministry. During the Turkish War of Liberation he was sent from Istanbul to Ankara by the government to meet with Kemal Ataturk and then also worked in Ankara and stayed there. Later he took part in the Peace Conference in Lausanne as legal advisor to the 1st and 2nd Turkish delegations .

Münir Ertegün became the first Consul General of the Republic of Turkey and later Ambassador of Turkey to the Turkish Embassy in Washington (DC) . Ertegün was the first ambassador to the Turkish Embassy in Bern . His sons Nesuhi and Ahmet Ertegün achieved great success as music producers with Atlantic Records .

Münir Ertegün died on November 11, 1944 in the USA and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery . After the war, his remains were brought to Turkey on the USS Missouri and he was finally buried there.
