The Münzverordnung MünzV ( French Ordonnance sur la monnaie , Italian Ordinanza sulle monete ) of April 12, 2000 is an ordinance of the Swiss Federal Council .

Based on Articles 1 , 4 , 5 and 6 of the Federal Act on Currency and Means of Payment (WZG) and Article 4 of the Federal Act on Measures to Improve the Federal Budget, the ordinance regulates coinage .

In particular, the ordinance defines the official names and abbreviations for the Swiss currency . In addition, the ordinance regulates the nominal values and properties (diameter, weight, rim, alloy) of the circulation coins as well as their supply and return as well as the handling of counterfeit coins .

The MünzV replaced the Coin Ordinance of November 19, 1997, the Federal Council resolution of April 1, 1971 on the suspension of silver coins as well as the ordinance of July 2, 1980 on the replacement of five- centimes coins .
