Mątowski Cypel

Mątowski Cypel ( German Montauer Spitze ) is a headland between the Vistula and Nogat in the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship . It is located in the area of the village Piekło ( Pieckel , 1942-1945 Nogathaupt ) in the Gmina Sztum (Stuhm) .
history
According to J. Makowski (1997), the original currents of the Vistula and Nogat flowed here before the Vistula-Nogat delta formed.
Zantir Castle , which Swantopolk the Great ceded to the Teutonic Order in 1253, was located on the Montau peak . Gustav II Adolf of Sweden crossed the Vistula here in 1626 and had fortifications built, which were expanded and strengthened until 1628. In 1629 the facilities were damaged by floods, renovated in 1655–1657 under Karl X. Gustav , but completely razed in 1659.
Beyond the tributary to the old Nogat, in front of the lock , there was the triangle between 1920 and 1939 , where the German Empire, the Free City of Danzig and the Republic of Poland shared a common border point. In 1930 the West Prussian Cross was erected near Weißenberg.
Living space
A residential area of the Pieckel rural community was also referred to as the Montauer Spitze . In 1905 it had 171 inhabitants.
