M-potter
The emergency name M-Töpfer is used in archaeological research to refer to a potter from the period between 465 and 435 BC who is not known by name . Called BC.
The M-Potter was recognized and named by Adrienne Lezzi-Hafter . The potter from the Classical Era may have owned a workshop in which, for example, he made vases for the Chicago Painter , the Methyse Painter , the Painter from Naples 3136 , the Painter from Leipzig T 64 , the Painter from Boston 03.794 and the Alexandre Painter manufactured. He was named after the most important painter who decorated vases with his hand, the Mannheim painter . The M in the emergency name therefore also stands for Mannheim painters . He probably only made oinochoes , possibly also choes in a rare spherical shape. His oinochoes are jugs of types II, V and VII , possibly also of type IV . The latter form was created in this generation, if he had also made such forms - then for the Chicago and Methyse painters - he was certainly one of the potters who were involved in designing the form. This is probable because his pupil, the S-potter , had this character in his repertoire. Its origin from the time of strict style can still be seen in the massive design of its jugs. Only his successor, the S-Potter, refined the shapes in the following generation.
