M. Achgelis Sons AG was a machine factory in Bremerhaven .
history
In 1865 Martin Achgelis took over the Grütter iron foundry in Geestemünde, which was founded in 1854, and expanded it together with his sons Hinrich and Gustav into a machine factory with an iron foundry. Starting with wrought iron products Advanced Achgelis its product range more and more to ship technical equipment ( windlass for steam and manual operation, ship auxiliary machinery of every type and size, Helm equipment and rowing machines , marine pump) with a focus on fishing vessels . Ship auxiliaries, particularly anchor winches and fishing net winches for fishing vessels, previously imported from Great Britain, became important products of the company and were successfully exported.
In 1918 it was converted into a stock corporation.
Since 1953, the company, which has meanwhile been converted into a GmbH, has developed ever closer cooperation with the Bremer Atlaswerke , of which Hugo Stinnes was the main shareholder . With this, one's own ability to act was increasingly given up. When the Stinnes Group collapsed in 1964, it was relocated to the Krupp Group . In the meantime, the production program had been expanded to include board cranes .
In 1966 the M. Achgelis Söhne machine factory was closed.
