In spring 1989 MAN presented a low-floor bus with the NL 202 . This bus, optically borrowed from the VÖV-Standard-II-Bus SL 202 , was available with two and also with three doors, all seats were on pedestals . The buses were available as diesel and natural gas variants.

The NL 202 was replaced by the MAN NL 202 (2) as early as 1992 . Visually, it largely corresponds to the NL 202. The most important difference was the low-platform arrangement of the seats and a kink line in the ribbon window. It was still run as a separate series.

In the meantime, the NL 202 has been taken out of service by most transport companies and are mostly only used by private bus operators or abroad.
