The MAN SG 200 HO is a German-Austrian trolleybus type. The articulated trolleys were produced as a joint venture by the companies MAN , ÖAF , Gräf & Stift and Kiepe . The vehicle is structurally based on the VÖV-I standard line bus , in particular on the MAN SG 240 H omnibus model built in parallel . The abbreviation SG stands for S tandard G elenkbus, 200 for the performance in PS and HO for H eckmotor- O berleitungsbus. This type was specially designed for the winter conditions in Solingen.

commitment

The most important company of the type MAN SG 200 HO was the Stadtwerke Solingen (SWS), a total of 21 cars were produced for the Solingen trolleybus (company numbers 1 to 21). There they replaced the predecessor vehicles of the Solingen trolleybus type . A 22nd vehicle was procured at the end of 1986 to replace the number 7 that burned out on January 28 of the same year. They were in use there between 1984/85 and June 18, 2003. Between 2002 and 2004, 20 cars were handed over to the Sarajevo trolleybus in Bosnia and Herzegovina , where only three cars are available due to their very poor condition. The entire MAN trolleybus fleet was scrapped in mid-2016. Only car 5 remained in Solingen , it became the property of the Obus-Museum Solingen e. V. about. The car is temporarily loaned to the Solingen municipal utilities and is still used today in regular passenger service, especially when there is a lack of vehicles during the morning rush hour .

Prototype SG 200 TH

A prototype built in 1979 also existed before the 22 MAN SG 200 HO series cars until 1983 . It was tested and tried out under the road number 81 in Solingen for almost three years before the series was ordered and was designated as type SG 200 TH (trolleybus rear engine). This prototype was returned to MAN in 1983 and stored there after the electrical equipment had been dismantled before it was sold to the company Omnibus-Verkehr Ruoff in 1987 , where it was converted into a diesel bus with the new company number 8051 in their own workshop. In 1995 it was retired and scrapped after a slewing ring damage.

Other related series are listed under VÖV trolleybuses from MAN and Gräf & Stift .
