Prautitz , in Upper Sorbian Prawoćicy ? / i , is a village in the center of the East Saxon district of Bautzen , which has been part of the Crostwitz community since 1974 . It has a hundred inhabitants and is part of the core settlement area of the Sorbs . Most of the population speaks Sorbian as their mother tongue. Audio file / audio sample

geography

The place is located 1.3 kilometers east of Crostwitz at 192 meters above sea level. NN above the floodplain of the Satkula brook . The neighboring towns are Lauske in the east, Nucknitz in the south, Kopschin in the southwest and Crostwitz in the northwest.

After the original settlement, Prautitz is a round hamlet with four courtyards. The houses on the floodplain, along the road to Crostwitz and below the actual village, were mostly built in the 20th century. The Prautitzer mill is located there.

history

Prautitz was first mentioned in 1225 as the place of a Petrus de Pratiz . The current form of the name is documented for the first time in 1248. In the meantime, the settlement was u. a. also known as Prauschwitz (1559) or Breutitz (1777). The village has always been a district of Nucknitz before it was incorporated into Crostwitz on January 1, 1974.

A plan for the Saxon Northeast Railway saw a route from Radibor to Kamenz u. a. via Prautitz and in connection with it the construction of a train station near the village. However, due to financial difficulties, the project was abandoned.

population

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 62 inhabitants for the place in the 1880s; all of them were Sorbs.

In 1834 Prautitz had 40 inhabitants. That number rose to 53 by 1871 and finally to 74 by 1890.

The inhabitants are traditionally almost exclusively of the Catholic denomination; the place is parish to Crostwitz.
