Caseritz , Kozarcy in Upper Sorbian ? / i , is a village in the geographical center of the Bautzen district in East Saxony and has been part of the Crostwitz community since 1957 . It has 43 inhabitants and is located in the Catholic core of the Sorbian settlement area in Upper Lusatia . Audio file / audio sample

The place name is derived from the Sorbian word for goat ( koza ) or goatherd ( kozar ). It therefore means "village of the goatherd". The current German name appeared for the first time in 1791.

geography

The place is located about 18 km northwest of the large district town of Bautzen and 10 km east of Kamenz at 160  m above sea level. NN. It is located in the "Oberland" ( Horjany ) of the former St. Marienstern monastery maintenance on the right bank of the monastery water . The neighboring towns are Räckelwitz (N), Crostwitz (O), Panschwitz-Kuckau (S) and Höflein (W).

history

Caseritz is an extended Rundweilerdorf with around 20 buildings. The place was first mentioned in 1327 as Kosericz . In the 17th and 18th centuries Caseritz was owned by the nearby St. Marienstern Monastery .

Caseritz was an independent municipality in the Kamenz district until January 1, 1957 , after which the place was incorporated into Crostwitz .

population

In 1950 Caseritz had 64 inhabitants. The population has since decreased by a third.

The place has always been parish to Crostwitz. Almost all residents are of the Catholic faith. Caseritz is a station of the traditional Easter riding on the route from Panschwitz to Crostwitz.

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 79 inhabitants in the 1880s; 77 of them were Sorbs (97%) and 2 Germans. In 1956 Ernst Tschernik had a Sorbian-speaking population of 87.2%.

Economy and Infrastructure

From 1975 to 2002 there was a popular outdoor swimming pool in the village, which then had to be closed due to construction defects. A few hundred meters upstream, the Klosterwasser has been the largest sewage treatment plant of the “Am Klosterwasser” association since 1997.

The district road 9230 (Crostwitz- Nebelschütz ) leads just south of Caseritz. The connection point Uhyst the divers of Highway 4 ( Dresden - Goerlitz ) is about 7 km away.
