Elisabeth Kieven

Elisabeth Kieven (born September 18, 1947 in Osnabrück ) is a German art historian. From 1999 to 2014 she was director of the Bibliotheca Hertziana , the Max Planck Institute for Art History in Rome .

Elisabeth Kieven's research focuses on the architecture of the 17th and 18th centuries in Italy ( Alessandro Galilei , Ferdinando Fuga ), in particular architectural drawings, as well as 18th century sculpture ( Pietro Bracci ).

Life

Elisabeth Kieven studied art history , history and archeology at the Universities of Münster , Bonn , Munich and Vienna . From 1978 to 1982 she was a research assistant and scholarship holder at the Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome ; In 1994 she took over a professorship at the Art History Institute of the University of Tübingen . In 1999 Kieven was appointed Scientific Member of the Max Planck Society and Director of the Bibliotheca Hertziana (Max Planck Institute for Art History) in Rome, a position she held until her retirement in 2014. In addition, she was responsible for the conception and implementation of a number of exhibitions in Italy and Germany. In December 2014 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class .
