The MDC Max Daetwyler AG is a Swiss company with headquarters in Bleienbach (BE). Daetwyler is active in the printing and machine industry and sells everything from wear materials to complete machines through a global sales and distribution network.

history

Max Daetwyler founded the company of the same name in Dietikon (ZH) in 1943. The focus was on the maintenance and overhaul of aircraft. Furthermore, Daetwyler developed and revised steel processing machines as well as drawing and copying machines for the graphics industry. In 1951 the enthusiastic pilot set up a new company headquarters in Bleienbach (BE), where he dealt with the development and manufacture of aircraft parts. Max Daetwyler and Lilly Schneeberger founded the Max Daetwyler Co. with the aim of developing and manufacturing parts for civil and military aviation. The development of a metal training aircraft has started. As part of the armaments program, the Swiss Army procured Mirage fighter jets and awarded Daetwyler a substantial order for the production of Mirage parts. The Swiss Confederation abruptly stopped the Mirage program for political reasons. Daetwyler had to reorient itself within a very short time and found new business opportunities in the graphics industry, especially in gravure printing. This was followed in 1979 by the transformation from a sole proprietorship to a stock corporation. With the introduction of the laser star, which processes the surface of printing cylinders with laser engraving, in 1995, Daetwyler achieved the final breakthrough in the gravure printing industry.

Daetwyler has been selling its products with a worldwide sales network since 1970, including branches in France, Germany, England, Spain, USA, Russia, China, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, Singapore and, since 2008, in India too.

Daetwyler SwissTec was founded in 2007 as an independent sister company of MDC Max Daetwyler AG and focuses on the manufacture of doctor blades .

The group and the owner of the companies Hell Gravure Systems, DE, K. Walter, DE and Bauer Logistik, DE merged their activities on January 1, 2009 in the Heliograph Holding.

Around 250 people are employed at the Bleienbach headquarters and the branch in Ursenbach (BE). Daetwyler employs around 600 people worldwide. The company is already in the 3rd generation.

Daetwyler company building

The group is divided into three independent companies:

MDC Max Daetwyler AG

MDC Max Daetwyler AG offers general industrial services for mechanical engineering, from the manufacture of individual parts to component assembly to the complete manufacture of complex precision machines. It also offers services in the areas of mechanics, electrics, electronics and software engineering. The competence center for mechanical and plant engineering is located at the Bleienbach headquarters.

Daetwyler SwissTec AG

Daetwyler SwissTec AG produces high-quality doctor blades in Switzerland and sells them worldwide. This steel knife is used in the printing industry to wipe off excess ink from the printing cylinders. This avoids streaking and spots, which leads to nicer print results. In 1973, Daetwyler SwissTec AG, together with Ringier Print, Zofingen, invented the lamella doctor blade and opened up previously unknown possibilities for industrial doctor blade manufacture. The Daetwyler Group's global sales and distribution network is also coordinated from the production site in Bleienbach.

Rotoflex AG

Rotoflex AG has been part of the Daetwyler Group since 2016. The company in Grenchen produces paints and varnishes for the food, non-food and security sectors of the printing industry. Rotoflex employs around 40 people in Switzerland and is expanding the network worldwide.
