history

MEHRSi was founded in 2003 as a non-profit, registered association . In April 2008, the general assembly decided to merge with the Björn Steiger Foundation on January 1, 2009. A non-profit GmbH was chosen as the legal form . The spin-off took place in December 2010.

Goal and tasks

Possible serious and often fatal injuries that two-wheelers can suffer from falling into a crash barrier on a guardrail support post should be prevented by installing guardrail underrun protection . The underrun protection is a resilient "second guardrail" attached below the conventional guardrail, which in the event of a collision absorbs impact energy, prevents critical contact with the sharp-edged support posts and actually forwards the injured driver. Conventional guardrails were constructed in the 1950s and have been built in this way in their basic features since then. A car should be intercepted at the height of the bumper / bonnet. The remaining distance to the ground harbors the risk of a fallen two-wheeler being seriously or even fatally injured on the guardrail or the support post.

MEHRSi advocates cooperation between sponsors and responsible authorities and pursues professional public relations work. The organization subsidizes the guardrail underrun protection and takes care of the installation in critical places in direct cooperation with the responsible authorities.

implementation

More than 2000 private individuals and companies support the project. MEHRSi uses donations to help defuse curves, which is generally financed from the state budgets.
