Bukowno is a small town and municipality in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland .

geography

The city is located in the south of the Olkuski powiat . The height ranges from 270 m above sea level in the north and west to 400 m in the southeast and in the Podlesie district. The Sztoła River flows through the town .

Expansion of the urban area

The urban area with an area of ​​63.42 km² has a north-south extension of 7.4 and an east-west extension of 13.2 kilometers.

The city includes the districts of Centrum Północ (northern center), Centrum Południe (southern center), Bór with Przeń , Podlesie , Wodąca , Stare Bukowno with Przymiarki . The southern part of the city belongs to the Dolinki Krakowskie nature reserve .

history

In 1402 Starczynowie , now a district, was first mentioned in a document. Lead extraction began in the area in the 15th century . In 1555 Jost Ludwik Decjusz built a lead works. During the third partition of Poland , the place became part of Austria . In 1935 the place was connected to the rail network to Szczakowa . In 1950 the mining company Bolesław was founded, which still exists today under the name Zakłady Górniczo-Hutnicze "Bolesław" SA . In 1954, lead extraction and the electrolysis of zinc began again. In 1958 the settlement was made an independent locality and four years later Bukowno received town charter . The name Bukowno is derived from the Polish word for beech buk , as numerous of these trees can be found in the area. In 1975 the place previously part of the Kraków Voivodeship became part of the newly formed Katowice Voivodeship . Since 1999 Bukowno has been part of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship .

The nearest international airports are Katowice Airport , which is about 36 kilometers to the northwest, and John Paul II Airport, Krakow-Balice, about 31 kilometers to the southeast.

The railway line from Radom via Kielce to Katowice also runs through the city .

The national road 94 runs from Kraków to Dąbrowa Górnica about four kilometers from the center . The A 4 autostrada is about 14 kilometers south of Bukowno. A total of 60.2 km² of the municipality is covered by roads, 27.2 of which are under the responsibility of the voivodeship, the rest under the responsibility of the city.

Bukowno station is located at the junction of the Bukowno – Jaworzno railway line, which is no longer used for passenger traffic, from the Tunel – Sosnowiec railway line . The Linia Hutnicza Szerokotorowa also runs through the city.
